At 9:30pm last night, as I was sitting down to write my Perfect Picture Book Friday post, the movers arrived—with furniture from my husband’s office. His company is going virtual, so what to do with all that stuff? Well, some was sold, some was given away to employees, and some was supposed to come to our house. A few things.
When the movers left at 11pm, I was beside myself. The following photos do not include all of the equipment in my husband’s home office (three chairs, one standing desk, and two large screen video conferencing screens), my son’s bedroom (three monitors), and our bedroom (two chairs).
Here’s our garage this morning. Anyone need a stool?
How about a desk?
My husband told me this morning that some of these desks are destined to go to employees who weren’t able to take them home yet. Breathe…..breathe…..Okay….
Oh, and a ping-pong table….we have so much space to play ping-pong now…..
And the table that was designated to become our “new” dining table won’t fit through the door until the legs are cut down. My husband had already disassembled our current table, so we had to create a makeshift dining table.
The laundry room:
And there appears to be an extra couch in our living room.
Even the dog is discombobulated.
The only thing that doesn’t have me hyperventilating is the table in the garden, although it needs to be cleaned and moved to a better location.
So instead of posting a perfect picture book, I thought I’d post pictures of my not-so-picture-perfect writing life.
After leaving my cell phone at the grocery store this morning and then returning a couple of hours later to find that it was in safe-keeping, I bought some chocolate, got a few hugs from my empathetic Word Curd Nerd writing group, and decided to change my “bad hair attitude” day (thank you for the phrase, Kate Johnston) and enjoy the sunshine and breeze of a perfect San Francisco day, and the gratitude it brings. I walked the dog. She feels better. I feel better. And now, I’m back to writing. The furniture can wait. Cheers!
Oh, my, I would be hyperventilating too. I don’t do well with clutter either. I sold some furniture to a furniture store, so maybe look for a place that sells used office furniture and see if they would take the lot off your hands? Good job for taking it in stride!
What, you don’t want me to send you some?
Aw, so sorry, but so impressed with how you handled it and also, that makeshift table, super cool! There may be a story in the making here
Something with the title “And Then the Movers Came” perhaps? I forgot to show a photo of the espresso machine that came home and is now taking up four square feet on my kitchen counter. Espresso and chocolate helps make everything better, LOL.
Hahhahha! Yes! I’m a proponent of chocolate all the time😆
Nooo! I can genuinely feel the anxiety rising from my core when I look at those pictures. I don’t deal with chaos well at all, so this would have me skedaddling to the nearest library or coffee shop! What a trooper you are. I must say, also, your garden is gorgeous!!
Thanks, Kate! I’m trying to “let it go.” I’m hiding in my new “bedroom office” so it’s a little less chaotic up here.
Yikes! What a day! I do home the stuff finds a new home quickly…freebies anyone?
Hopefully things will go like the proverbial hot cakes. Fingers crossed…..
that look on your dog’s face is priceless!

Yes, she continues to be perplexed.
Eek! Total overwhelm! So glad you got your phone back and walked the dog. Looks like a nice pingpong table. I would find a space for that first. LOL. And who can’t use about 20 tall red stools? Wishing you peace and SERENITY NOW! As you move through these changes.
For serenity, I wander in my garden or sit at my newly-created “office” space in our bedroom. The dog and I have reconciled ourselves to our fate. That ping pong table is a good one. Right now, we’re trying to figure out how to clear enough space to use it. We may end up having a garage sale. Surely someone needs those stools!
Misplacing the phone would be havoc enough—squeezing excess furniture into occupied space is traumatic. Even chocolate can’t cure everything.
I just keep upping the dosage.
Or the percentage—go up to 90% dark chocolate😯
Ooh, nice stuff! Do you ship to Jersey?
Ha! Sorry, this is BYOT.
Dagnabbit.
Ahhhh! I total get it but well recovered. 🤗
